Available Light

During the spring, I was photographing the Honored Guests Banquet of the 2008 Salute to Veterans Celebration in Columbia, MO.

One shot that I got, I forgot about until I was reviewing photos this week. I really like this. It's of the master of ceremonies, Don Landers, a highly-regarded independent CPA in Columbia.

I love the character of this shot, the directionality of the light, and the overall look. This is the kind of portrait that I get excited about.

Starting the New Year

Well, I return to work for the first time in 2009, in the morning. I'm about to go to sleep, but thought a quick Christmas photo would be nice. It's kind of a fun shoot:

My daughter and son (in-law) needed a Christmas photo for their cards. We kept putting it off until we finally had to do it -- at 1:00 in the morning, making it my latest photo shoot ever. Still, we had a lot of fun.

I always hate the fake "hello-I'm-smiling-for-the-camera" look, so we work for some genuine smiles, which I got in this shot. However, the really fun thing is how I got the smile: after getting a few of the "camera smiles," I know that these two have a terrific sense of fun. So I ask them to think of the last practical joke they played on each other, and here's the result:

What does that tell YOU?
